|

Hi gang!
Well, my David Burnett Combo (Speed Graphic with 178mm f/2.5 lens) arrived back from S.K. Grimes, and I just wanted to report back that they did a very nice job.
Between the f/2.5 aperture, the Fresnel, and the satin ground glass, even indoors the image is clear out to the four corners.
I've created a weblog which has plenty of pictures of it. Also, I'll be cross-linking it back to this page, so other 'blog visitors will come here as well.

Hi Dan, and welcome to the AE users gang.
Looking forward to seeing pics done with your Speed.
David's camera is a Pacemaker, not an Anniversary.
His aperture scale is sideways because wide open it is always like this : F2,5 at 12 and F16 at 3 when you put the reference white dot at 12.
Yours is a bit uncommon with a thin ring and a hand-written scale which goes backwards...
Also, you might consider looking here :

than search for

You need to register, but John will gladly send you a PW if you ask.
A lot to learn about Aeros and Speeds.
Enjoy. |

Sorry about me venting my spleen above; but I'm going to let it stand unedited:
MODERATOR'S EDIT Since Discpad would not remove the offending language in the post mentioned above I have deleted it. Suffice it to say that Discpad does not like John D. deVires or his website.
I wasted almost two hours trying to contact that schmuck, among other things, trying to decode the bounce messages.
EDIT: Removed offensive material

Seems we don't own the same lens...
When you have pics to show, please let us know. |

We may not: They probably made one or more running changes along the way as the War progressed and they got feedback from the theater.
I'll post pix as soon as I can: I don't have my film lab set up again after I moved in with my fiancee this summer
Let's see: Darkroom; or going to bed every night with my woman...

My blood pressure is still elevated hours later, after the mention of that jackanape John deVries and his website. |

Here's another reason I forgot why I detest John DeVries' website: When I enter my email address, Dan@Snip.Net... His F'd up javascript rejects it.

|
|
OK, I'm looking at several lenses on eBay right now: This one from 1945, serial number ER396, has the f2.5 mark on an engraved aperture plate at the CCW position (looking at the front of the lens).
This lens from 1944, serial number EE3220 has the aperture reversed from mine as well.
So, it appears that one, two, or both of these things happened:
* Kodak made a running change after my 1942 vintage EA250, reversing the way the aperture assembly was mounted;
* These later lenses were used on something besides a Graflex K-24 aerial camera.
Again, and I stress, my lens came straight out of a K-24 and the aperture scale is on the sunshade, not on the lens itself. I'll post a picture when I wake up. (It's 4:41AM and I have insomnia). |

|
|
OK, the K-21 camera arrived... And it was hacked by the previous owner with plywood spacers to bring the focus in from infinity!
Here's the interesting thing: This lens (EM11353) has an engraved aperture scale on the barrel... And the direction to open it is the reverse of my first A-E (EA-250) that came straight out of a K-24 camera!
And today, I scored a coveted yellow-dot A-E (ER1440), which has the same engraved scale and direction to open as the K-21 lens.
FWIW, S.K. Grimes has two more of my Aero-Ektar lenses, one being for another David Burnett Combo; and the other, which arrived with a mystery helical focusing mechanism and ancient threaded MF mount, will be converted into a Mamiya 645 mount, which I plan on using on my 645AFd and via Mamiya lens <--> Nikon adapter, on my S2 Pro & DCS SLR/n!
All that is old... Is new again! |
