Being fond of the Graflex 6x6cm option, I've found myself exhausted with one RH12 back, despite having a multitude of RH8s (6x9cm) backs.

Is there any alternative brand of Century 6x6cm roll film backs?

Failing that, would it be inconceivable to attempt to modify a RH12 back to shoot 6x6cm composition on 8 frames?

Any thoughts or suggestions welcome.

Thanks.

Just put the inner section of an RH-8 in the outer section of your RH-12 and it will produce eight 6x6 frames on a roll of film. They will be spaced as if they were the center part of 6x9 frames.

Henry - sorry. I meant:

is it possible to convert an RH8 into an RH12?

I have an abundance of RH8's shooting 6x9cm.

95% of my work is in square format.

I was wondering if any other manufacturer makes 6x6cm roll film backs.

For instance - Wista, Linhof, Horseman make 6x9cm backs, although I have yet to come across a 6x6cm one..

I suppose it would be possible to convert an RH-8 to an RH-12 but that would involve replacing the internal gear train and counter wheel as well as masking off the image gate. The cost of parts (if available) and the labor involved would make it so impractical that I would not attempt it. A better solution would be to watch the eB** auction site for RH-12 units.
The www.mpex.com link that Dan Fromm provided and Calumet Photo in Chicago, IL, USA might be able to offer 6x6 cm roll film backs. (Sorry, I'm away from home and do not have Calumet's website address with me.)
BTW- I'm C. Henry, not the same guy as the Henry that answered your other post. He is a good guy and has helped me more than once as well as having added extra helpful info to my attempts to help others. He lives in Pennsylvania while I live in Georgia.

Mamiya RB 67 backs will fit but the newer ones have lockouts that have to be bypased and older ones usually need the light seals replaced. The Mamiya backs are 6x7 or the equivelent of RH 10 but you might find a 6x6 for the Mamiya RB67.

Just hunt up another RH12 Graphic back; while they are probably the least common of the 8/10/12 series, they can be found. I am not aware of any other 6X6 backs that will fit, the other makes being either 6X7 or 6X9.

Watch KEH, call Midwest, or check Ebay for the back.
