|
|
I've had my 1947 Crown Graphic Special for about a month now. Last week I tray developed a half dozen shots with good results.
But now there's an issue. The RF is no longer synched to the lens. I don't know how or why it happened, it just did. I do know that they were synched when I recieved it. I was playing around with it the other day and noticed that when the RF patch was lined up the image on the ground glass was still OOF. Obviously, the ground glass image is correct
It's off by a good 6ft...
Can anyone hazzard a guess as to what happened and also how I can adjust it back?
Thanks! _________________ Sometimes I Take Pictures

Start with the easiest first.
Find an object 1/2 mile or more away that has clearly defined edges (traffic lights and signs work well. Graflex used the Kodak tower lights.
Look through the kalart finder and adjust the rails until the RF aligns with the target.
Now fold down the inf stops and push and pull the front standard until the ground glass is sharp.
Now look to see if the inf stops are in the right place.
The two places two adjust are the cam in the back mounted to the rails (it moves the postition where the Kalart RF engages the rails. and the inf stops themselves.
If that doesn't work look online for the adjust the Kalart RF on line, there should be a link on this site somewhere.

HArd to say what's happened without having it in hand. Check that the coupling arm inside the camera body is seating properly on the eccentric cam at the back of the rails and that it is snug on the RF shaft at the top.
One thing I have ran into a few times now with Kalarts is the lower mount for the prism can become brittle and break allowing the calibration to be all over the place. They don't break all the way off; the spring steel just sort of cracks. To check this just pop the cover off and make sure the prism is snug against the small set screw used to adjust it. I also have a couple here that simplyhang up internally. A couple I have been able to get working, and a couple simply don't respond well to any amount of servicing, which is pretty much dissassembly cleaning and proper reasssembly. In other words, they tend to work well, or not very well.
Anyway, they are simple devices and hopefully you have nothing broke there and yours can be made to work. |
