Yeah, good luck. You'll probably have to make your own from a piece of front rail. They're next to impossible to find. BTW - FS and WTB posts are not allowed on this forum.

"Yeah good luck" Well someone has sent me a link to a site selling the parts. I'll post the link once I know they are on the way to the UK. Interestingly these aren't Rocking Horse shit, the seller had 3 pairs until yesterday, when he used apair to restore a camera.
FWIW I posted here saying I wanted to get these parts, on this forum dedicated to Graflex cameras, where better place. In fact the information came from outside this community.
It's reasonable to assume that the "Speed Graphic Help" section is where one asks for help

Ian,
One thing to remember, just as over on apug, respecting the wishes of the owner of the system, can go a long ways, I have been a member here for many years now, and it has never allowed WTB and FS ad's on this system.
Glad you found your parts, but next time remember, this system is for information and not for s-ales..

I have searched IanG's original post in vain for any mention, or even the slightest hint, of any solicitation or offer to buy, sell, trade, or otherwise exchange filthy lucre for the parts that he is seeking. I read his post as a simple desire for guidance and a helping hand in this matter. IMO, the sort of not for profit, non-commercial transaction that might result in acquisition of essential materials to make a camera functional is a wholly appropriate, even a desirable, activity for this board, and it ought to be encouraged. To avoid giving offense to those who object to same, the Private Message option is available to registered members for this purpose.
As a very long-time member of this board, I find it ironic in the extreme that my recent post to the Graflex.Org Site Discussion forum with regard to the matter of pornographic sites disguising themselves as "New Members" met with almost total underwhelming indifference in the form of silence, whereas IanG's completely innocent posting has generated this kind of indignant response on the part of several members. To me this shows a convoluted value system at work here, which both saddens and annoys me. |

Henry,
Normally on the net world, when a wanted post is posted on a website, it is an inferrance that I want to b u y something, as far as the value systems of the operators of this website, I agree the porn, needs to be cleaned up and the new membership registrations need to be monitored closer, I know with my message system, the last thing I do before bed is make a quick check and the first thing I do in the morning is a quick check, just to make sure none of this type of registration is occuring.
Now in defence of the owners of this website, I have a lot more time to monitor my stuff than many others have to monitor their stuff, many of these message systems are run by people who work at outside jobs, and they do this as part of their hobby, myself work for myself and have the opportunity to be on the net most of the day and night as my laptop is next to my workbench, so it is very easy to check.
But chastising other longtime members over a message that was posted that obviously a couple of us took the same way, might not be the best course of action either.
As I said, normally when a "wanted" message is posted, it pretty much has one meaning. I know when I post a wanted post on a message board, it is a wanted to b u y message as I don't expect anyone to give me anything for free. And really, I don't see where Glenn's message or mine was in anyway a jump your butt post...
Dave

Sorry, I don't see it that way at all. I said exactly what I intended to say in my previous post. If the shoe fits, wear it. |

Guys;
Let's remember that the English language is very imprecise. For someone in the U.S. or in the lands down under to try to read between the lines of something said by someone in
Great Britain is to risk misunderstanding.
After all, when I was a young man several years ago the exact words that meant to ask a girl for a date in Austraila, when used in the U.S. meant to get her pregnant!
Let's not split hairs on what the new guy on the forum meant or intended.

As one of the relatively "new kids" on the block (gee, it's good at the age of 70.5 to be a kid), I think I had better read the forum house rules carefully before I make a miscue. Can some one tell me where they can be found?
Thanks

At this point in time, I think it has become a moot point, a couple of us read his message one way, and other read it another way, he has found his parts, and he is aware that the FS and WTB are not a gernerally accepted type of message to post here
Doug,
Quite often many message systems don't have written rules, as I said in another post, many run these systems as a hobby for informational purposes and the "rules" are implied concent rules per say, as I said, I have been around a long time and it was told to me when I first became a member many moons ago, that FS and WTB postings were not welcome by the older members of the board, I just accepted it and didn't post anything of that nature...
Dave

The forum rules can be found by reading the First Time Visitors forum. Access it from the Graflex.org Forums home page.

Well, I looked, and I don't see them, could you provide the link, because when I click on the link for first time visitors, and there is a few different areas you can go to, but if I click on the help column, I am just brought back to the fourm, I didn't see any printed rules.
Dave
PS, not that it matters much..

What is the "Graflex.org forums home page"?
On the Graflex, org home page, there is an item for "First time visitors", but it doesn't seem to lead to any forums, except that the Help item takes one to the forums index.
Perhaps you could give me a link directly to the First Time Visitors Forum.
Thanks.
Best regards,
Doug |
