				I've noticed that some F/2.8

Xenotars are in No. O Compurs

while others are in a No. 1.

Does anybody know when Schneider

switched? And why? Was the lens

redesigned and needed a bigger

geometric aperture or did they

switch because of vignetting.

				| I was interested in this lens for awhile but dropped the idea since it seems to be limited to 6x9 format w/o much coverage for movements. Seems like they would want to use the smaller shutter for this format. |

 | To both of you, Xenotars were made in a variety of focal lengths and speeds. According to Schneider's site, f/3.5s and 100/4s were in #0, 80 and 100 f/2.8s were in #1. Apparently no major redesigns, but the slower ones are smaller.

The type -- fast double Gauss -- rarly covers much more than its focal length. The 80/2.8 is an exception, Schneider rates it to cover nominal 6x7 and some users have claimed it can be used on 2x3. I guess usability depends in part on how good one wants the image to be in the corners. |

I should have specified that I meant

the 80mm. I have seen some on Ebay in a

No. O shutter and others in the more

common No. 1. I was just curious when they switched. |

The 80/f2.8 is an old friend; I used one on my Century for years. It'll cover 6x9 just fine from f8 on down, and is a little soft in the corners at f2.8.
