Hi, I was hoping someone might have some information regarding a flash bracket from Heiland Research Corp. It is marked "64 R". The camera it is attached to is quite old-- I think Pre-Anniversary w/ the early-style Kalart RF. I was wondering what flash unit(s) is designed to be used with it. Thanks very much, Jeff

Do the mounting rings have a key-type lower and a button and slide upper for mounting? I'm (not very)sure that the 64 series btackets locked their rings this way, while the 70 and 76 series used the button/lock on both, sliding in from top to bottom.

That's correct. It looks as though the flash unit would be inserted into the bottom hole and turned/rotated until it slid into place through the top hole. At the top there is a "pressure plate" that would secure the flash against the inner side of the bracket itself. Hope that description makes sense. Thanks very much for the reply.

I once had an Anny Speed 4x5 with this type of bracket mounted on each side of the camera. As to what sort of flashgun/battery case it would fit, any Heiland/Sol/King Sol 3-cell would fit, and possably also Abby and Mendelshon units as well. The trick is going to be finding the rings. You might want to check in at the Graflexchange at http://www.southbristolviews.com/. Most folks here monitor that board, and you can make the sort of direct marketing appeal that is frowned on here.
Worst case, you can modify the far more common Heiland 70/76 mounting rings to fit that lower keyhole slot. I've done it with nothing more than a hacksaw, a file, a bench vise, and a little time.
