Somewhere between a 210mm (8 1/4in.) to a 255mm (10in.) is about
ideal. I personally often use a 10 in. Wollensack tele, which is in
barrel and works beautifully on the Speed. I'm now looking for an
old soft-focus lens, in barrel, again in the 10in. range to add to
my collection. Keep in mind that the rule of thumb for 4x5 lenses
is that they are about three times the length of an equivalent 35mm
lens. So, the 10in. would equal about 85mm in a 35mm camera. One
caveat, make sure that the focal-plane shutter speeds on your
camera are consistent, otherwise the results from using an
in-barrel lens will be less than satisfying.
Cheers,
