questions. With your help I was able to get the back off and found
the batteries were not making good contact with the small copper
tabs. Had to bend them out just a little and it now lights up just
fine. I think I'm seeing the correct two lights you mention. One on
top of the other right? Only thing is, when I focus until the two
lights converge, I'm focused at about 50 feet even when the object
I focused on was only 8-10 ft. away. I suppose this means the
rangefinder is shot, right? Please say it ain't so! Am I doing
something wrong, Carl?
Also, is the solenoid you're talking about, the cylindrical one
that is attached to the lens board? How are the two
connected?
Appreciate any help.

: Ron,
: The red button has two funcitions
: 1. To trip the Solenoid on the shutter
: 2. To turn on the light bulb inside the rangefinder to allow
focusing in the dark.
: two beams of light are projected, you adjust the focus until the
two beams converge.
: If no light comes out, you may have to replace the batteries, or
bulb, or clean up the corrosion created by leaking batteries. (
funny thing while finding an answer to your last question, size of
lens. I found the batteies in my rangefider were badly carroded.
Had to clean the contacts with a drummel tool with a wire
brush)
: The batteries are in a compartment, the door is ing the middle of
the back of the rangefinder. Push in and slide slightly sideways to
the right the door should pop open.
: Hope this helps.
