The 203 ektar is a very nice very sharp lens. Many a commercial photographer put their kid through college with this lens.
Form a perspective point of view, it's on the long side of "normal" (Normal for view camera work is somewhat subjective and can range from a slightly wide 127mm to 240mm).
Yes newer lenses will out perform this lens on the bench, but the cost of new glass in great and this one is in your hand.
I suggest you use this lens to learn large format photo with.
I'm not sure about the press type shutter, the person that can answer that is steve grimes as he does just that kind of thing.
