According to the FAQ, EI give lens manufacture date as 1948

How long typically would lenses sit on the shelf?

there is no "typical". With ektars, I would expect them to move quickly. A camera made in early '48 might have a '47 lens. In this case I'd feel comfortable saying your camera was made in '48.

Now I've seen Carl Zeiss Jena lenses pop up after '45. These had to be sitting on the shelf during the war since they were uncoated and the B-17s had pretty much leveled the factory during the war.

Thanks - '48 looks good

Hard to believe this thing is around 54 years old - looks like it just came out of the factory!
