Does anyone know how to remove the view hood from an early 3x4 RB Auto?
The hood door is hinged at the front.

Probably a thin metal frame with a screw at each corner that has to be removed then it lifts up.

The serial number may be engraved/stamped into the lip of the view opening if the box is square with no notch in the front which is pre 1916 design.

Do you mean screws located inside the hood?
I've seen some, but it's rather difficult to get your hand plus
a screwdriver inside and still be able to see what you're doing.

I believe the camera dates to 1910.

No, they should be on the outside perimeter, one at each corner or near the corner front and rear.

Okay. No, the only screws I've seen are inside.
Two at the front, and four at the back.

If the screw heads are parallel to the base of the hood then use a 6 inch #0 or #1 slot screwdriver to remove them. They should be #0 or #1 brass 1/4 to 3/16 long.

Its been 15 years since I had a 1915 RB Auto.

Thanks so much for your help!

I removed the 6 screws and the hood was free.

You need at least a 10" long screwdriver with a blade not wider
than 4mm.

Using a mini flashlight helps. Turn the camera on its side, in case
you drop the screwdriver.
