I am putting out an A.P.B. on Graflex.org. So I bought this 5x7 Top-Handle from seller on e-b claiming to be liquidating her late father's camera collection (yeah, right). Turns out the S.N. was scratched out. So I wonder-is it hot? Why else would the S.N. be obliterated?
Please let me know if you have heard about a 5x7 Top-Handle Speed Graphic being stolen. If it is, I want to return it to its' legal owner. Like all legit collectors, I despise people who knowingly sell stolen antiques. If I had realized the S.N. was deliberately ground out I wouldn't have bought it.

Does the serial number scratching look recent or well aged?

Damaged area is considerably darkened from age-definitely not recent. Numbers were gouged out at least to 1/4 inch below surface.
