Hello,

I have an R. B. Auto Graflex, and I have no cle how to use it! I know how all the settings ag other item on it work. I am wondering about the exposure table on the side of the camera. In my belief I think it works by you search for the shutter speed 1/_______ The blank is the number you are looking for. Then you use the slit size, then the tension number. Then you set the aperture as your light meter says to. That is my judgement on how it works. Please help.

Right. Shutter speed is set by selecting slit width and spring tension.

Understand, however, that the speed the shutter delivers may be far from the speed the plate promises.

The On Line Instruction Manual for Graflex Cameras linked at the intro of this section and elsewhere on this site covers the operation of ALL Graflex SLR's.
Step the tension setting down to 1, wind the curtain up to the slot width desired, increase tension to desired setting. You may not be able to wind to the 1/8 width with the tension at 4 or higher.
Shutter test: with tension at 1, curtain at O, trip shutter=curtain should just close and latch in the closed position. The latching should be positive but not a clunk or so gentle that you cannot tell if it latched or not. Not latching but closes=needs CLA (clean lube adjust).
