1. Go to http://www.southbristolviews.com/ and download the Top Rangefinder Service manual located under the Graflex Manuals link.
2. Remove tha FPS cover only following the instructions in the manual. Best to have the curtain at O before removing the cover.
3. Flush the top and bottom curtain rollers with a degreaser such as Isopropyl Alcohol or electronic contact cleaner. Do not use denatured alcohol or laquer thinner as they will damage the shutter curtain and/or the body covering.
4. Once the old dried out lubericant is removed then coat each roller end with one to two drops the size of a pin head or smaller of 3 in 1 machine oil or a teflon based fine mechanism oil such as Tri-Flow.
5. Reassemble cover and test shutter.
6. If shutter curtain material is stiff remove the camera back.
Use extreme care in operating the shutter with the back removed, damage to the curtain can result easily!
6a. Set governor to the low position and wind the curtain to the top speed.
6b. Lay the camera face down on a flat surface and coat the exposed shutter curtain area with Pledge (yellow can @ http://www.pledge.com/) and allow to set for 10 to 15 minutes. Trip shutter and coat the next section. Continue until the entire curtain has beed coated and allowed to penetrate.
6c. Using a soft cotton cloth remove the excess pledge fron the curtain.
6d. If curtain is very stiff or getting brittle, remove the bellows and coat the front (lens side) of the curtain from the front of the camera.
The curtain should be as flexible as new heavyweight fabric.
7. Adjust the curtain tension spring if curtain does not operate properly after cleaning the roller ends and softening the curtain. |
