Hi,
I have been offer a Super Graphic. The gent that is selling it says that is probably one of the latest model produced, it comes with a Xenar 135mm, it has the focusing scale on the top. I have a couple of questions:
- It doesn't have the button on the top left of the camera to trigger the shutter. Is that possible?
- Is $500.00 a fair price for it? It is in excellent shape, no manual, no film holders.
Thanks in advance,
Roberto |

"It doesn't have the button on the top left of the camera to trigger the shutter. Is that possible?"
Without the red push button on the side of the camera then, NO, obviously you won't be able to trigger the shutter using the electric shutter release. And I would be suspect that if the button is missing then without seeing the camera it would be difficult for us to assess if the wiring for the electric release is all intact or not. This wiring runs from the top of the camera, is actually built into the bellows, and then out to front standard. So it's 50-50 if all is intact. I had to have Fred Lustig get mine working again, but he said that it is quite involved as he had to take the rangefinder mechanism all apart to get at the upper wiring in and around the red button.
Another option that you could try for remote shutter release is to get a Graflite 2 or 3 cell flashgun, a Y-cord, two 22.5 volt batteries and then have a go at it. This would confirm if the wiring is intact or not.
If the wiring is shot you could, of course, just use a cable release screwed into the shutter itself, no electrical assist needed at all. Without working wiring, what you essentially have is a Revolving Back Crown Graphic, so to speak, with a couple of extra movements at the front standard.
"Is $500.00 a fair price for it? It is in excellent shape, no manual, no film holders."
IMHO for a Super Graphic in excellent shape WITH working wiring, $500.00 is at the high end of the scale, especially without any of the extras you indicate. It would be advisable to get a manual. And film holders will obviously be a must if you want to shoot 4x5. Otherwise, you will need a 120 roll-film back. So I guess I'd have to say, bottom-line, that price is high for a camera with no accessories and questionable wiring.

You say it doesn't have the red button on the top left. Do you mean the button itself is missing and there's a hole there, or that this camera doesn't have a hole for the red button? If there's no hole then I'd like to see photos!
To answer your question: With Graflex ANYTHING is possible, but it's not probable.

Thanks Jack 5541 for your time and comprehensive response. I will reinspect the camera again keeping all your comments in mind.
Les, thanks for your response. I recall that the body had no button no hole, it was a perfectly even surface. I’ll check that again.
