Yes, cheapskate I am.
I have a 4x5 SG w/no back. I keep losing eBay auctions for backs, which sometimes go for more than parts cameras...
Has anyone ever put an alternative or homebrew back on a body that was in pretty bad shape but still usable? It's kind of rough looking, duct-taped bellows, and all but the shutter has distinctly different speeds and there's no reason to get rid of it.
Thanks

Unless you really need the flexibility of the Graflok back, go looking for a spring back instead. It should be cheap, and if the camera is as rough as you say it does not make sense to pay the Graflok price. Otherwise, go looking for a parts camera instead of a loose Graflok back assembly. |

Spring the $200-$225 for a good working Speed and use the one you have for parts.

Not much spring in my pocket at the moment. Lottery ticket options are too confusing. It's easier to find treasures on eBay.
Was it's Graflex's use of Mahogany that makes them guilty of RFD?

Murray, at the very cheapest end of the scale is my effort made from some sheet aluminium and four mousetraps:

That still doesn't give you a GG screen, but I plan to build one out of an old filmpack adapter so that it will slip in like the screen for my RB Auto Graflex SLR. |

Yes, that IS yellow.
Mousetraps...now there's a humane way to mount things!
Rattraps for 8x10 projects I suppose.
Thanks...

while scanning the ending soon auctions in the large format section of ebay there were a spring back and two speeds with the bids under $100.
