The example I have has both plated and gray painted metal parts. I have never seen one with mixed hardware finishes; did Graflex care about mixing the parts as they were making the changeover?
One possibility is that the camera was overhauled by Graflex sometime after it was made, and selected parts were painted at that time. The gray parts seem to be in unusually good shape, and do not display the overall wear that the rest of the camera would suggest as appropriate.
The gray paint is professionally applied, and is definitely the correct shade. It is also clear that it was applied while the camera was disassembled.
The camera is SN 43492, which should place it sometime around 1913 or 1914. |
