Hi Folk,
On my crown there are two focusing scales and two infinity stops. One of the focusing scales has a "Red" dot on it, and when I set infinity on the other scales, there is only a minor offset on the "red Scales". I assume this is for infared film. Is this correct. With the two sets of infinity stops, one set is 30mm away from the other. As I have a 127 Optar on and one set of stops is at 127mm from film plane, I assume again that the other was for a "97"mm lens. Now that seems to be a wrong assumption. Were there 97mm lenses or was it maybe a 100mm lens that focused at 97mm? Thanks, Mark

position of the focus scales has no relevance to focal length. If you remove the longer bed half of the scale there will be a number on the back and it can be referenced to a piticular focal length. Another test is to open the bed to 900 , set to infinity as indicated by one or both scales, focus to closer distances and measure from film plane to target and see which scale is correct for the lens. A search with check box "all the terms" selected and "Focus Scales" as the keyword, and alecj in the author box will produce a lot of post about focus scale reference numbers and corresponding focal lengths.
Graflex measured the focal length of each lens and made a scale for it as well as cams. There may be several scales and cams for any given focal length, all will varry slightly.
