Does anyone have experience using a a Speed (or in my case, a Crown)graphic with a modern flash? I just took my shutters in for a clean and lube, and the tech offered to wire me up a bipolar to x-sync cable that would let me use my old vivitar 283. Is there anything I should know before I try?

Just do it and don't look back. If you don't want an improvised flash cord, Paramount (www.paramountcords.com, I think) makes 'em for around $14.

Should work just fine. One of the added benefits of a between the lens shutter is that it will sync at any shutter speed so you have plenty of latitude to play with when using fill flash outdoors, even in bright sunlight with fast film.
