I just bought a Hugo Meyer Rangefinder off of e-bay. I'm not sure how to use it, however. From the looks of the picture (it hasn't been delivered yet), it appears that there is a dial with distances on it, and a viewfinder (http://www.dofmaster.com/hyperfocal.html). So, do you look through the viewfinder and focus with the dial on the right, and when an object is in focus, it's at the distance shown on the dial?

Thanks.

I'll start with a basic question. Is it on a camera? I see you don't have a Graflex.

Have you ever used a rangefinder on any camera?

Also, why did you post this question here, where normally discussions are conducted about this site in general, when there's clearly a forum for questions about Non-Graflex stuff?

alecj:

I couldn't find the forum for non-Graflex stuff that you say is "clearly" available. Excuse me for living. You could have answered the question (assuming you know the answer) in less time it took you to send a rude reply.

45PSS:

I appreciate your help.

Frankly I was trying to figure out what this has to do with Graflex [after all, that's where you are, you know]. I guess nothing from your reply.

It has nothing directly to do with Graflex.

In trying to find an answer to my original question, I ran into a question about the rangefinder on this Web site (http://www.graflex.org/helpboard/messages/4634.html). Being unfamiliar with rangefinders, I thought that perhaps a Graflex user may have experience with a rangefinder.

If you know the answer to my question, it would've cost you nothing to provide it. If you don't know the answer, there was no need to reply to my post. Unfortunately, you chose the course that far too many in society choose today - you were haughty for no reason other than the fact that you had the ability to be so, and it gave you pleasure.

I feel for you, brother.

My, but we are touchy. Sorry to tell you, kid but you're NOT my brother. Finis.

Alec, old curmudgeon, there are really sensitive types around. For some odd reason, they'd rather complain about helpful responses than be helpful themselves. You have my sympathy.

Cheers,

Dan

Siberia:

Chill out. I don't see anything "rude", or offensive, or even short in Alec's reply. He asked you a question to clarify what you were doing, and suggested that you should have posted in another forum. If you had looked around, you might have noticed forums for Large Format Photography and Non-Gralfex Cameras. Both would have been appropraite. The forum to discuss problem or suggestions with the forum itself is not appropraite...

Alec, hang in there. Most of us appreciate your help!
