Hi all,

Thanks to your help I located a nice RH-10 rollback (with a lever) for my 2x3. The camera is in very good condition, the rangefinder will need a little adjusting, but for now I will use the ground glass or maybe just a bit of zone focusing .

I can finally test it out now that I have the roll back, but I am still unsure as to how to set it up to only use the front shutter-- the focal plane shutter is obviously off and fixing it will be a later project.

The manuals I have looked at don't seem to cover my oldie very well -- seems to date to 1941.

Is there a simple, straightforward way to "disable" the focal plane shutter?

Thanks in advance,

JT

After the letters D,C,B,A you'll find T and O. O is for Open, T is for Trouble.

Actually T is for time, and when the spring was young, you could set it for T, trip the shutter once and it will move to O trip again and it will close.

But Minature Speeds are somewhere between 62 and 69 and they don't make little blue pills for main springs, so wind the tension until you can get the focal plane shutter to O and then un-wind it so the spring can stay in a relaxed position. (Move the little pawl next to the tension knob)

One thing I learned the hard way about 2x3 lever wind roll film backs is that winding them on without inserting the dark slide may fog the film. This appears to be due to the force on the lever moving the back just enough to cause a light leak between the camera body and the back.
Good Luck with your new roll film back.

Ah, that did the trick -- I was seriously lost on that. Next step is to get the rangefinder calibrated-- looks like a bit of a project.

And the blue pill reference gave me a good grin-- I'm a cardiologist "by trade" and I still remember watching the Pfizer rep get overrun at the American Heart Meetings after that drug was realeased (looking for samples I'm sure).

C. Henry -- that is a great tip! I probably would have gone nuts trying to troubleshoot that one.

Thanks as always, guys!
