The Kodak serial numbers had an "L" to signify that it was coated.
127mm kodak has the "L"
135mm Graflex just has a serial number
152mm kodak has the "L"
203mm Graflex just has the serial number.

Is a Graflex lens just a rebagged kodak?
I have seen the 203mm kodak lens with the "L"

My Graflex lenses look as if they are coated. How can I tell?

Terminology and nomenclature.

Kodak named their top of the line lenses Ektars.

Wollensak named their top line lenses Optars (or Tele-optars)

Either of these lenses could be found in a Kodak Shutter called a Shuttermatic, a Wollensak shutter called a Rapax or a Graflex shutter called a GraPHex, which is a relabled Rapax

Do the lenses (around the glass) say Graflex on them?

135mm Graflex Optar f/4.7 No778002 in a Graphex (X) shutter (Is this coated?)

127mm Kodak Ektar f:4.7 RC3154L in a Graphic Supermatic (X) shutter (this is coated?)

8" (203mm) Graflex Optar f/7.5 NoG53055 in a Graphex shutter M M FX off (Is this coated?)

From what I have read the kodak 203mm was f7.7

I would think all of these are coated. The Ektar is from 1950 And the two Optars are in late shutters.

While there may be exceptions, I believe Wollensak changed the name of their tessar design from Velostigmat to Optar when the coated them. The lack of an L or a Circle W may be that these were the first generation coatings. There was a lot of talk about the new "Lumenized" ektars when they came out and it may be a different coating than the non labeled versions.

There is a 127 f4.7 lens for a Speed Grapic on Ebay right now in a Graphex shutter labeled Velostigmat. It's clearly not coated. (search under "graphic, old, sharp" to find it

Surely Optar was Graflex's house name for the lenses they sold. Wollensak's name for
most of their post-WWII lenses was Raptar.
Wollensak lenses without a Circle W are uncoated. To add to the confusion,
late 135mm Optars were made by Rodenstock.

the 135 could be a rebadged Wollensak or a
rebadged Rodenstock. The s/n doesn't look
like a Wollensak one, does the lens say
'lens made in Germany'?
