I am trying to located a 3 1/4 x 4 1/4 or a 4x5 Graflex for an art exhibiton to take place at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, Krannert Art Museum from January 30, 2003 to mid April 2003. Part of the exhibiton is focusing on some portraits taken by Edward Weston in the 1920s and 30s and we would like to have a camera like what he used on display. Any information on individuals of groups that may have access to such a camera and who would be willing to LOAN it for the duration of the exhibit, is much appreciated!

I'd be happy to help if I can, but you hae to be specfic as to what model you are talking about.

Around this board a "4x5 Graflex" means an SLR type camera that is much bigger than a Speed Graphic.

If you are looking for a Graphic camera, then again try to be model specific or at least time frame specific.

Edward Weston did many of his portraits with an 8x10. I recall reading somewhere that the Century Universal was the camera of his dreams and he eventually obtained one. If you want an 8x10 Deardorff which would certainly be of the vintage, you might be able to get one from, or a lead for one from Ken Hough who is in Ohio(I think) try searching the Deardorff Historical Website. Better yet, Kim Weston, Edward Weston's Grandson who still lives on Wildcat Creek in Big Sur. He might know the whereabouts of one of his Grand Pa's cameras. Probably the Weston Gallery in Carmel can put you in contact with him. Cheers!
