This Graflex website has been a mine of information but a few important details someone might help with.
1. Would an RB superD sinc with electronic flash and if yes would the Auto model work in the same way?
2. What is the max. magnification of these cameras with their standard lenses?
3. When were the last Auto models made - I'm not clear as to whether they were early designs or latest developements?
4. Is the camera body size of a 4x5 very much the same as a 3x4 or significantly more bulky
5. Can you now get the bulbs for the Graflex flash holders?
6. What actual image size does the 3.25 x 4.25 give in a sheet holder?
Are you asleep yet - any answers would be a big help in choosing the right horse for the course!

None of the Graflexes were designed to work with electronic flash that I know of. The Super D was the only one that was designed to synchronized with any flash, and it was with flash bulbs. Richard Paine says that it will sync with electronic flash at 1/5 of a second.

No real stats as these weren't designed for close up photogaphy. "Closest working distances" were 20" The standard lens was a 7.5 on the Super D and it had a 12" bellows, so you won't get 1:1

The RB Auto ran from '09 to '41,
the series D ran from '28 to '47
and the super D ran from '48 to '57 Quote: |

| the 3x4 feels like a boxy 4x5 Speed Graphic, the 4x5 feels like a 5 month old baby. Quote: |
5. Can you now get the bulbs for the Graflex flash holders?
| yes, ebay

Thanks Les for all that information. The graflex I've just bought is a late model superD 4.25 x 3.25 (thought I would try this before getting the 5 month old baby) and would like to get the right original flash for occasional use outside the studio. What code or model no. should I look for? Also you said I might get bulbs on Ebay but what is their ref.No. and are they not re-made by a specialist bulb company like flashbulbs.com ?
Best wishes and thanks for your help |
