I recently bought a Crown View that is
just a pile of parts....am going to restore it, but the front standard is missing, and I need a few dimensions to duplicate it!
If any of you Crown View owners are willing to measure a few things for me, would be greatly appreciated! Bert

Okay here's some dimentioned pics of the hardware off of my 5x7 2D. I didn't do the widths since they will be different.
the locking mechanism is simple in design and difficult to duplicate. One one side there is a pinned large knob on the shaft. The shaft runs through a slot in the front standard and picks up two gears that are also pinned. Once in exits the opposite side of the standard, the shaft first gets threaded, then gets reduced to 3/32" dia. The knob has a 3/32 through hole that is counter board and threaded. Once the knob is on the shaft sticks out by about 3/32 and gets peinned. Thus trapping the knob from falling off but remains a loose fit on the shaft. To lock the front standard simply tighten the knob

Thanks Les....great photos, (hope you didnt have to borrow a camera to take them)haha
The knobs are the same diam, and the 3/16 shaft matches too, and had surmised that the wooden crossbar was hollowed for the shaft and gears, as yours is, and that the knob.."could"..lock the gears...but on the Crown View, there is a lever, on center, and just above the cross shaft with the gears, and I assumed that it could function as a clamp to hold the sliding portion of the lens standard from moving up and down somehow????????
Will look more closely at the photos, and speculate some more!!!!!
I really appreciate your taking the time out for the photos and the dimensions!!!!
Bert

Thanks 45, I had seen this one, but all looked like 8x10 items! Les pointed out
another Crown View at auction, but they
sold the camera privatly, and withdrew the ad, almost immediatly....so didnt get a chance to buy it! Bert
