I just purchased a Crown Graphic on E-bay. I should be getting it this week. Anything I should do to check and see if it's functioning properly. I don't know much about these cameras. I am new to 4X5 format.
I know it comes with a 120 roll back. Should I use that to learn the functions on the camera?
Thanks for any help. |

Unless you've got sheet film holders and a lab to process them, then I'd go with the roll back for now. I'd check the shutter speeds with your ear. (does the 1 second buzz consistantly or does it poop out before closing the lens) I'd check the lens with the rangefinder. (focus on something about 50ft, then look at the ground glass, does it match? try again at 25, 12 and 6 ft.)
You could write a whole book to answer this question, so I'd look through the rest of this site, it's quite large, bookmark often or you'll get lost. One the camera gets into your hands you'll be able to get more out of the site. I suggest you pick up a copy of Graphic Graflex Photography an 8th or later edition. This will help with film, processing, composing and some of the accessories you might still find on ebay. Then when you have more specific questions and can't find the answer, write back and I'll make something up.
