Hi All,

I'm a newbie here and have a 2x3 century graphic with 100mm zeiss tessar 2 roll film backs, one 6x9 the older style with the knob on top and one a newer singer style 6x7 with the blue spring loaded advance. The newer back lever doesn't retract.

I've heard that the newer style with the extra rollers performs better because it has extra rollers, Since the newer one doesn't appear to work right, I'm wondering if I can combine the parts and use the knob top with the newer style back with extra rollers and supposedly flatter film

can i combine them?

-post edited because I can't spill wright

Some of the later rapid advance (RH) inserts have a notch that prevents the inserts from interchanging.

Search the site for " roll film holder " and check "all the terms". You might even figure out how to fix the lever wind, possible broken spring or just dirty.

And its Knob.

thanks, I thought that I would ask as these items aren't being produced anymore and I would not want to needlessly waste something that was repairable.

I'm not sure where I read it but I believe that I've seen several places where the newer lever style has a spring that is either hard to replace or replacement springs are unavailable.

http://www.deansphotographica.com/machining/projects/springs/springs.html

I used a Bosh 12V cordless drill, a number drill bit about half the diameter of the desired spring diameter, and a pair of pliers.
I used a digital caliper https://www.ebay.com/itm/6-Inch-Digital-Vernier-Caliper-150mm-Stainless-Steel-Micrometer-Electronic-Tool/254256641889?epid=1462187223&hash=item3b32e07761:g:n9EAAOSwlEJc-lb8 to measure the broken spring wire diameter, ordered some music wire (piano wire) as its no longer available locally, locked one of the wire in the drill chuck along with the drill bit, pulled the wire tight to the drill bit and wound it manually the desired number of turns, formed the ends, then heat treated as described in the spring making link. They work fine.
