I've got an pre-anniversary 3 1/4 x 4 1/4 speed graphic with really bad leather on the body. I think I'm going to take off the leather and refinish the wood... once I take the old leather off, what's the best way to get the old glue off? Sandpaper, water, alcohol, some other solvent?
Thanks,
phil |

In order of ease to use and results,
1). Mosenbocker's LIFT OFF 2
2). Goop (hard to wash off residue,ie other glues won't stick)
3). Goof Off (requires a LOT of ventilation)

Parney--Best to use paint scaper--after leather is removed--if you are going to re-finish the wood, be carefull not to gouge any holes in the wood, then sand to a smooth finish! I use a clear satin polyurethane--best not to stain the wood,
I find the natural mahogany color to be the prettiest, and the color is more even! I remove all the brass fittings, and polish the exposed parts with rubbing compound (lap wheel)then a brass polish, re-install the fittings, and brush or spray paint the finish, spraying gives a smoother coat, but also a lot of masking involved! (I put the poly on the brass too) Makes a very tough finish! Bert
