just recieved a Yashica 24 from a friend, and I was going to run a roll of 220 film through it, but there is an issue with the film counter mechanism that prevents proper use. the film counter shows the red film used display all the time, and when the back is opened to reset the display, it goes to the 24 on the counter, giving one crank rotation, then the crank freely spins. basically, I couldn't even forward a roll of film to the picture section.
how do I fix this? or does the camera just need a CLA?

and where can I even get 220 film? I'm having trouble finding some.

Discoman;

If you plan to use the camera a CLA would be a good idea even if there was no problem(s) with the camera. A good technician will usually find the cause of problems with a camera while performing a routine CLA.
As for sources of 120 & 220 film, the last time I looked (about 6 weeks ago) both B&H and Adorama in New York City offered them on their web sites.

Interesting-I traded a 124G and some other items to get my CG. The Yashica digested 120 without a burp. 220? the crank wouldn't stop winding. I had to guesstimate how far to crank to a new frame-got 16-18 exp. I now have for my CG a RH20 (6x7) roll back. Last time I looked, Kodak & Ilford didn't list 220-only 120.
