I have an old (dear) CG that I used six years ago. I decided to start using it again but now cannot get the front of the camera open! The side button depressed but nothing happens. Any ideas on how to get my baby open? I was all excited about this!

Deb, it may just be stuck from sitting. If the button has spring resistance when you push, yet pushes in as far as it should, it should come open. Try giving it a little pry behind a focus knob or something when you push the button. Not too hard, you don't want to bend something. Sometimes the button has to be pushed in really hard. It seems that way, anyhoo. A lot harder than what we rememmber.

Try pushing the bed into the body slightly. This relieves the pressure on the latch and may allow the catch to move.

Thank you both for your reply. I tried both ideas but it is not opening. I will take it to the LCS where I bought it, they may be able to fix it for me. I took some great photos with this camera in 1998 in my senior year of my fine art degree...

Turn the focusing knob toward the top of the camera as far as it will go then try the latch again.

I tried pushing focus knobs upward, depressing front top inward to relieve pressure, sliding fingers under spring back to push lens back forward (sigh) I know you understand what I'm saying. I've probed abit with the proverbial butter knife too lol (gently)
I do not remember jamming it shut the last time it was closed but somehow I think that is what has happened...alas

Yes, I seem to remember having to turn the focus knobs a bit to get it to open. Seems that if the rail gets extended (raised) when closed, it can hang up on the latch.

Okkkkkkk, I'm blushing now. I took it to the LCS and he pushed the button on top and it sprang right open. I wasn't even pushing the right thing!

Best set the camera up on tripod,turn towards yourself,and photography one very red face...
Don't worry we all make mistakes,now it's open,get some great pictures while summer lasts.

And I actually took a polaroid shot that turned out, despite the film being seven years outdated!

Back when I had a Speed (button on top) and a Crown (button on the side) I was good for something like that about once a week.
