Hello,

Can I still get flashbulbs for my Speed Graphic?

I am a long-time Graphic View user and just picked up my first Speed.

My camera came with a right-angled reflector, so it takes the smaller bulbs like my Land Camera and so many other smaller cameras. I would like to use this, but I also want to get the proper (or "regular") reflector and bulb socket.

There are several questions I have.

1. What is the best source for the smaller bulbs that fit the right angle reflector?

2. What is the aperture-distance scale for the small bulbs?

3. Where can I get an original reflector and what do they go for? I would be willing to buy a whole flash gun to get it, and use the extra for a handle on the left side. I don't like holding the strap, and I also don't want to damage it (It seems to be the most fragile part of the whole camera!), so I would prefer to just replace it with a good looking handle like the Graflex flash guns have.

4. Where can I get the larger blubs?

5. What is the aperture-distance scale for the larger bulbs?

Please tell me that someone reproduces these bulbs...I spliced synch cords. for my Sunpak 622 so I could get the Speed up and working (and it seems to work OK), but it just doesn't seem right putting the 622 on the Speed....It's a more advanced form of basically the same thing, but it very ugly. hahah. It's like when you see some dork in a bad-ass old muscle car cruising along talking on a cell phone.

Thanks,

Keith

go to: http://www.google.com type flashbulb in the search for box and get 294,000 hits of which the first two are:
http://www.flashbulbs.com/index.shtml
and
http://www.meggaflash.com/

I think these questions can be answered by going to the home page of this site, clicking on Technical Information, scrolling to the bottom of the page then click on Flashbulbs and its sub links.

Go to the home page, click on Related Web Sites then on the Commerical Sites Selling... link.

Which flash gun do you have, 2 cell Graflight 2772, or 3 cell Graflight 2773, or is it a Heland or other make?

In the case of the 2772 or 2773, upon removing the 5 inch reflector you will have the socket for large base bulbs. The model number for the 5 inch (right angle) reflector is 2745 (early model 2749) and 7 inch reflector is model number 2747.

Se (y)lling is not allowed on this site sooooo, send me a private message as I have 4 2773's and fewer reflectors which are gold plated pre say.

Charles

Hello, Charles.

Thanks for the information. There happens to be a local camera store that has all sorts of new old stock stuff sitting on the shelves! Even expired photo paper from the '80's! The place is an absolute disaster, but there are some usable items there. I picked up some press 25 bulbs.

The flash gun is a Graflex 2 cell model. I will contact you when I need to and can afford to add another.

Keith

I use a Graflex 3-d cell flash. I have an adapter so I can use both standard 5 and 25 flash bulbs as well as any of the M flash bulbs (m2,m3,m5 and etc).
Pacificrim.com is one place you can get flash bulbs at a very resonable price. Also a great source of info about flashes.
There are plenty of flash bulbs available on EBAY.

I use b&w film asa 100 from JandCphoto.com.

I use the shutter connection on the flash bracket and then follow the examples on the side of the box for aperture setting. I always use the 1/50 shutter setting.
