I used the manual to take apart the shutter mechanism and find out why the focal plane shutter won't fire. The slack in the cloth told me that there is no tension. I've gotten everything apart, lubricated, and back in place, but when I wind the tension screw, there is still no tension. Is it possible that the spring inside of the lower roller is broken, or might it just be disconnected? I know that there needs to be some tension in order for the shutter to fire, but I can't seem to get any. I haven't taken the cloth completely off of the roller yet, hoping that there is a way to fix it without having to take it off and reglue it later. Do I need to take it off and check it out? Thanks,
Scott

Scott,
You may be able to remove the lower roller assembly without detaching the curtain but it will require removing obstructions on the gear side and the guide bushing on the other side and exercising care not to force anything, once out the roller should slip apart and expose the spring which is most likely broken.
Broken retainer end: Reform spring end with needle nose plier as necessary to attach at the shaft or roller end.
Break in central portion of spring: Reform ends of break to form a loop and insert the other end thru first loop and form like first loop. Crush loops flat and seal with solder so that a smooth section is formed so that the spring will not catch on sharp edges or lumps.
Reassemble and test.
