I recently re-acquired a 4x5 Crown Graphic. It has been many years since I last used one of these. I bought a box of Forte 200 sheet film, shot a few for tests/practice shots and processed for 6.5 min in Ilford Ilfosol @ 68 degrees. Once I had the film in the fixer for 2 minutes, I turned on the light. To my amazement, the developer looked like mud and the film was totally clear. Before I give up, could someone tell me what I did wrong?

Sounds like a developer prep problem to me. Haven't used that one so can't help otherwise.

Was this first use of that dev. batch? Maybe it is bad/old/mixed wrong?

I'm not familiar with Ilfosol, but I just souped a run of Forte 200 in Sprint, a liquid concentrate D-76/ID-11/HC-110 type developer. Worked just fine.

Ilfosol S can go bad with no warning. I don't like the stuff. Personally, I'd stick to D-76.

Ok, thanks guys. I bought some fresh developer this morning. Everything turned out fine. Just have to refine the tray processing proceedures now.

I've invested in a Nikor 4x5 tank. Does 12 sheets at a time in a quart of chem. Not easy to find, and not cheap when you do, but well worth the dough IMHO.
