Greetings Graflex users. I recently acquired a Speed Graphic from an old news reporter who recently entered his post-retirement. Unfortunately I cannot ask him my questions.
First order is to identify. It is a Speed Graphic, sn:448357 with an Ektar 101mm f4.5 lens sn:ES11593. The lens appears to be 1947 vintage. I would imagine the camera to be the same vintage. It has a Graflex 120 roll film holder. All appears to function well, except my ability to focus the beast.

Questions. Is there a glass back I can get to use as a view camera? I like doing macro work, and this may be an option for close work. What other lenses are usable? Maybe a tube telephoto? It has all sorts of connections for flash synch, but no cords or flash. I have a number of Metz45 potato mashers. Could I adapt cords to use one of them?

Forgive me if I use the wrong terminology. Just getting into the Graflex scene. I am jazzed about adding it to my camera arsenal. How does one add pictures in the forum? Or do I need to use links to a site and post them there?

Thanks in advance for any and all help.

NEVER!

448XXX- middle of a batch of 2x3 Speed graphics slated to be built starting at the end of 1947 so it was most likely made in the first half of 1948, so it is/or should be a 2 1/4 x 3 1/4 Pacemaker Speed Graphic.

ES=1947, common for a lens to be a little older than the body as there was a variety of lens available from the factory as well as dealers.

http://graflex.org/speed-graphic/features.html#GraflokBack
With a RFH either the Graflok focusing panel has been removed or if the camera has a Graphic back the focus panel for it has been removed and the RFH attached by kit or similar means. If the back has bars that slide and lock the RFH in place then it is a Graflok, if the RFH is fixed in place with springs attached with screws then it is a Graphic, if the back has solid bars top and bottom with the top one sliding only it is a Graflex.

Graphic 22 and Graphic 23 operate very similar.

Any that will fit on the lens board and focus within the limits of the bellows.

Any flash connector at the back of the camera is for Focal Plane Flash Bulbs called FP flash bulbs.
The front shutter is most likely a Flash Supermatic with Bi Post flash sync terminals. Bi Post to what ever the flash/strobe uses can be had from major camera stores or

Post your images to an image hosting site then link them here. While large images are great for detail, images larger than 620pix approximately will cause side scrolling for the entire post and responses making it difficult to read.

Enjoy the steak and baked potato.

Thank you 45PPS. You confirmed my guess that it is an early Pacemaker. It has the side mounted Kalart Focuspot.

The RFH has the two slide locks holding it in place. So I would be looking for a Graflok focusing panel, yes? The search is on, the game is afoot.
The cameraeccentric links are great. Just what the doctor ordered.

Thanks again. Will post a few pics after my film order comes in. I think the focus bug will be worked out soon.

That's the Kalart Side Rangefinder, the focuspot is the lamp attached to the top of the rangefinder for low light focusing.

The rangefinder should be calibrated to the installed lens.

Graflok focus panels are hard to find, you may have to get a complete graflok back to get one. Check with the source of the camera as the focus panel may still be in the storage chest.

This is one article posted in three sections. Doesn't even scratch the surface.

Excellent information sources. Thank you so much. I look forward to using my Speed. I am sure more questions will pop up as I learn the camera.

I just learned my Epson 4490 scanner will not let me scan a complete frame. Bummer. My 3200 has been relegated to my Dad's computer since Vista and 7 OS's. More character building challenges to come, I am sure.

Thanks again.
