To really show off my Graphic 4x5 results, I like to make 11x14 and 16x20 prints on fiber-based glossy paper "glazed" on my old Simon-Omega motor-driven dryer (made by Pako). Pako no longer makes dryers and does not have a canvas belt (mine is rotten and frayed). I need a 17" x 100" continuous light canvas, off-white belt for the dryer. The dryer is ca. 1978 and the model number is 414008, Assy. No. 203-78. Who would have a new-old-stock belt for this dryer or who could custom-make one for it?

Other than making one, that might be a tough thing to find. You could try someone like Regal/Arkay to see if they have a replacement for a Pako type unit. Arkay was still making those drum dryers until a few years back (fairly sure of this). I don't know if there's any old stock left out there someplace, a big supply house might have one ... I had just the same model at one time....I couldn't even give it away (believe me, I tried), Wound up taking a trip to the local landfill....what a beast...

I noticed when reviewing Google about these things, that if you do make one, do not use silicon treated canvas, or wax coated. Use untreated only. I have rolled many a print on my flip flop dryer, using Kodabromide, and Medalist paper, but now I use Resin coated. If it was me I would give it a go on sewing one togther. Russ

I just solved my own problem!!! I learned from a photo dealer that Pakor (not Pakon) was the maker of Pako dryers. I called Pakor in Milwaukee, WI and the drier was long discontinued; however, they still had some parts! Thus my Simon Omega dryer was actually built by Pako and was the same as the Pakonomy 18 model! I'll have a replacement canvas belt any day now (appx. $80 and worth it since the Regal/Arkay dryer costs over $2000 new).
