I have an old 2 1/4 Crown that I pull down and use occasionally. It has a CZ Jena 105/3.5 Tessar. What I want to know is the significance of what appears to be a 'Q' with a 1 super imposed at the 12 o'clock position just in front of 'Tessar'. It has a red T that I take to mean coated. SN#3772XXX.
I can send a pix if anyone wants one.
Any thoughts?

That is a prime quality ("Qualität 1") marking which Zeiss Jena/Pentacon used for some time on legitimate exports to western markets in the fifties, after their reputation had taken a first hit from quality issues which they tried to explain away as reexports of lower grade domestic products.
Doesn't mean much, as it got rapidly watered down and eventually vanished.
