We purchased at an auction a Century Camera 7 that is labeled as a Master Studio Camera and has the Folmer Graflex Company brass plate. Can anyone tell me about this camera?
I am cleaning it up (it appears to have been stored in a barn) and need to clean the bellows. They look to be made of a leatherlike substitute like leatherette. What wouldbe best to use for this?

Thanks.

first off use a shop vac to get as much of the dirt as possible, then use a SOFT bristle brush, (much like for polishing shoes jeweler's supply houses have soft brushes that look like oversized toothbrushes) to dislodge more of the dirt. Then clean it with either window cleaner or 409 orange oil cleaner. Be careful of orange oil cleaners, as some of the more expensive versions have a lot of orange oil and can degrade the bellows. 409 is pretty weak. The safest way is to use facial tissues to keep from abrading the surface (You use 3 or 4 at a time and as soon as they fall apart, get more) or use paper towel.

Once clean use Pledge to protect it. Armor all can soak in and loosen the glue in the bellows.

BTW: The Folmer-Graflex corporation was around from '26 to '45 so your camera was made somewhere in there. The 4A was the most popular portrait studio camera for many years.
