It's a sad reflection on life when we see the bombing in London turn everyone with a mobile phone cameras into a 'Press Photographer'and 100% encouraged by newspapers and television news broadcasts.

A far cry from the days of the Speed Graphic, flashbulbs, plate holders, and press card sticking out of your hat.

Even one broadcasting Co.stating on it's website, never mind the quality the public don't care about that, let's see a blurred image...right every Tom,Dick & Harry rushing off to the drug store to buy a phone.

Weegee would possibly be the only one on the crime scene in those days:today you have dozens of youngsters with mobiles clambering over the crime scene or bodies to see who can get the best picture to email back to the networks.Never mind the blood dripping down your nose because you hold the mobile away from the face...

The networks love this, you have a ready made cameraman amongst the victims-whereas the professional is being held back behind a rope a half a mile back by police.

This has become very clear with the incident here in London. What signals does this send out to students of photography. No skill is required anymore...

A sad reflection on life...

...and no pay either.

Of course the "No skill is required anymore" was said when we went from Dag to wet plate.
From wet plate to dry plate,
dry plate to cartridge film,
cartridge film to "minature camera".

Years ago, newspapers here wouldn't except pictures if you were not in the journalist union.Didn't matter what the subject contained.

It's a form of cheap labor...don't die yet, send in your video pictures via email to us...then die!.

Amazing how students run around with $$$ phone cameras, but cannot pay the rent!...sorry,rich parents then buy the phone.

Although Im 15-miles from where this crime happened, you wouldn't have seen my feet for dust, blow the pictures!
