I have the Kodak f4.7 127mm lens on my Speed Graphic and want to use a filter. I'm told I need a slip-on adapter that will accommodate a hood that, in turn, will accommodate standard screw-in filters. Am I correct? Where can I get an adapter?

I'm not familiar with the Kodak f4.7 127mm lens, but unless it has filter threads on the front element, you will need a series VI slip-ring/retaining-ring combination, the slip-ring diameter to match the diameter of the front element of your lens (measure across the face of the lens at its widest point with a rule calibrated in millimeters). Where to acquire series VI slip-ring and filters? Camera shows, used equipment section (junk drawer) of camera stores (especially old-line businesses that have taken trade-ins or may still have "new" old stock), dealers such as http://www.rgpins.com or http://www.mpex.com (call them, in both cases; they have more than is listed on their websites). Screw-on filters will not work with series VI, unless you can find a 44-49mm step-ring (series VI thread is 44mm), then you can use 49mm screw-on filters with the series VI slip-ring. This all sounds more complicated than it really is. You may luck out and find everything you need by attending one or two camera shows in your area; see ads in the back of Shutterbug magazine for locations and dates. Good luck, and happy hunting!

Many thanks to Henry and especially to H. Martin. Is the Kodak Series VI Adapter Ring you cite still available as a currently made,i.e, readily findable, item? Sorry to be such a pest.

(1) From what I've seen on ebay you may be better off price-wise looking for series filter stuff at camera shows, where I've acquired several series VI slip-rings in various diameters and typically paid around $2 apiece---not to mention all the common filters for b/w and color balance, lens hoods, polarizers, step-rings, etc. I once got a whole bag of filters for $5. (2) the www.rgpins link in my previous post doesn't seem to be operating; his phone number is 201-784-1444.

Hey Ubu...

If you're from NYC you shouldn't have a problem finding a camera store that has what you need in their "junk" drawer. The Shutterbug ads should have a ton of them.

Thanks again, Henry. I called (three times)the guy in Jersey as you you suggested, but apparently he can't be bothered rooting around for a three-dollar item--I'll remember that when I need something expensive! So I'm back to square one. Anyone out there in Graphic land have a spare Kodak Apapter Ring, 1 1/2 diameter, for a Kodak Ektar 127mm lens? Cash on the barrel-head, no questions asked.

eBay auction Item #1289775406. Series VI 38mm Adapter Ring Fits Graflex Lens. Seller camerahunter. Closes Nov-01-01. Opening bid $5.99, shipping $2.00 and it shouldn't go for much higher than that!
Regards, Harry

Thanks, Harry, but no cigar. E-bay tells me the following:
Invalid Item
The item you requested ( #1289775406 ) is invalid or no longer in our database. Please check the number and try again. If this message persists, the item has expired and is no longer available.
This bloody adapter is turning into a full-time job (and I'm putting my unemployment insurance at risk).

Try this one

On Ebay Click "Browse" enter this number and click the box "search titles and descriptions"

There are a number of ways to find the auction but I find this is one of the fastest:
(1) http://www.ebay.com
(2) Look at the top of the page in a row of boxes you will find Search. Click the Search box.
(3) Click the Search by item # box.
(4) Type in the item#.
(5) Click Search to the right of the number and you got it!
Good Luck, Harry
P.S. I think this is one of the auctions without a photo.

Carl, you're a wizard! (You wouldn't find that flattering if you knew the level of my internet incompetence.) I have joined the bidding battle, and we'll see.

Thanks,

Glad to help, unfortunately I am TOO familier with Ebay, end up buying too many cameras.... (he he)

I am lucky locally we have a camera shop that has a "goodie" box of old filter junk
cleaned him out of Series VI adaptors and filters and sun shades for my Graflex 22's
Here is a picture of how the Series adaptors work.

Graflex stuff on my web site
