I recently purchased a Press Graflex and Compact Graflex....both 5 X 7 formats. Although I bought these as collectors items, I would like to use them every once in a while. Yet I have never processed 5 X 7 before. I use a JOBO tank for 4 X 5 and smaller. I also like using Rodinal but find it works best with minimal agitation (since it is a compensating developer). Any suggestions for an occasional user of 5 X 7? Thanks for your help!

1) trays. You likely already own a set so it will be the cheapest way. Downside you'll be standing in the dark.

2) Jobo Expert drum. Very expensive and I doubt these make sense for ocassional use. You'll have to run alot of film in one of these to save the cost of a pro lab.

3) Rig something up with a print drum. Drums aren't too expensive. I've seen some comments about people using Jobo print drums for 8x10. I've been thinking about this myself if I ever get an 8x10. You can get cheaper used drums but once you add the cost of shipping you'll get pretty close to the price of a new Jobo print drum. There are problems with print drums. They aren't designed to get the chemicals to both sides of the film. Some people claim it works great others seem to have problems. Older drums can have leaky lids.

4) Supposedly HP made a combitank for 5x7 years ago. I imagine these things would use a lot of chemicals and would have all the troubles that the 4x5 tank does. But if you can find one it might be interesting.

5) Maybe hangers? I think you'll still be standing in the dark.

So IMHO if you aren't running a lot of sheets then stick with trays. Either that or consider rigging something up with a print drum.
