1960...in front of WSIL-TV...presidential campaign...JFK is captured with a 4X5 Speed Graphic and Heiland Strobonar by a local photog. And...could it be?...Yes!! the interviewer is clnfrd!

Okay, so maybe I shouldn't have bored you with this old photo...but it was recently sent to me by an old cohort...my 15 minutes of fame...and I thought it was a bit of history, since a 4X5 Speed was used by Ronnie Doerge, a photog of great repute in Southern Illinois in the 50's and 60's

Hey Fred --
I'm no major JFK fan, but it's still a cool shot! I do have to ask about the mic. Does it say Louisville Slugger somewhere on it? That sucker's huge!

I can't remember the model number, but the mic was an RCA...commonly called a "salt-shaker"...and was intended to be used as a desk mike. The station had limited equipment, so we had to make-do with what we had. The base of the mike was removed to use it as a hand-held. Fred.

...thus the look of dismay on young JFK's face. Imagine he's thinking, "What kind of el-cheapo radio station uses a desk mic as a hand-held? I've seen better looking baseball bats."

Note also the use of the patented W.C. Fields "Hearty Handclasp."

(Sorry, guys, I'm just in one of those silly stupid moods today.)
