Hi -

I just bought a cheap Wollensak Alphax shutter to use as a mount for a pinhole/zone plate. I don't know anything about it, but think that it was one of those jobs that was modified for the speed reading/aircraft identification system.

It has a huge 45mm (+/-) opening that's stopped at f6.3-22, and has T,B and F as shutter speeds. ( All I need is T or B.) It came mounted on a flange that was glued to a 3X3 gel frame that was stuffed with three layers of Rolux-like diffusion and one layer of an ND gel.

Two Questions:

1.) What's the cheapest, easiest way to mount the plate? (I'd rather save Steve Grimes for the big jobs.) I assume that I want to mount my plate near the center to minimize vignetting, and there's a 1/4 in. ledge around the diaphram that would allow me to do that with something as simple as a couple of washers. What do I use for a retaining ring?

2.) What kind of cable release does this take? It has a post, but it doesn't seem to be threaded for modern CR's.

thanks in advance,
heller

hi, i have an old Wollensak 10" lens with a single throw shutter, which is what it sounds like you have. Although my shutter has speeds from 1-1/100 second. Are you sure that there aren't any internal thread on the shutter release? On mine there are external, and internal threads at the cable release post. i thought that the external ones might be the same as an old Leica cable mount which had a female type cable release adapter, but they are smaller. I wonder if it might be set up for an air type bulb shutter release? I think that the old Packard shutters which had one speed were pneumatic.
