Hi all,
i just got a Crown Graphic from ebay (post 55 version). it appears to be in great conditions, and i really like it.
since it's the first time i see one of these cameras, i've noticed that the graflok back seems to be a little bit loose (it moves a few millimiters on both sides) when there's no film holder. while it is perfectly tight when the film holder is in its place.
i don't think this is normal. i was just wondering if this can cause some sort of problems (like for focusing on the ground glass) or i just shouldn't care about it.
Thanks everybody,
Andrea

You did not specify the direction of movement which can affect operation. I checked one of my speeds; 2mm left to right only.
Left - right and or top - bottom can result in miscomposed final image if exact position of an object is important. If movement is front to rear then FOCUS will be affected as the ground glass must be at the exact same plane as a sheet of film in a holder.

the play is in all directions.
Actually i realized that moving the sliding blades above and below the back you can lock it in place while focusing. i'm not sure this is the standard procedure, but seems to work in this way. |

Pacemaker series Speeds and Crowns all use the same Graflok back which crop up on that "E" thing ocassionally. All it takes to change one is a small blade screwdriver. It may be that the removeable portion is all that is worn.
