How do I verify if the focal plane shutter works. Found a camera that looks to be in good shape but the guy knows nothing about it. Waht are some other things I should look for?

wind it up and fire it. try all the speeds. if it is an anniversary speed or older the slower speeds may be quite slow. |

With the lens open you could watch the curtain apertures on the ground glass as you wind the shutter. This could show you if any of the apertures are torn and you may be able to see pinholes as well.
