Hi, Cykke...Just curious. Are you native Croatian? Your English is very fluent. How did you learn this...or do you use a translator? Thanks. Fred.

Yeah, I am... I have bought 2 Graflex replicas for SW conversion, from Parks *****s, and one real Graflex, that I will not destroy, or drill, I will put it on stand, and look at it...

Don't put it on a stand! Them things were made to use! Buy some bulbs, give it a try. If you're not into photography, take it up, it'll expand the mind (but then, I'm a little biased on these matters).

Now how can you argue with a post like that!

Cannot argue with that reasoning! If you like it that way, keep it that way! I'm restoring a war-era anniversary SG, and had an idea I might be able to get it back to as-new condition, but ended up dragging tools across recently refinished surfaces, chipping paint off of metalwork edges and revealing shiny brass beneath and realized: "Ah! This camera will be better if it looks FAIRLY new with moderate character!" So for me, scratches and dings from use are "character."

I'm always skeptical of people who specify that it has to be a Graflex and it has to be a 3-cell. There are plenty of other brands, and a 2-cell lasts fine for modern-day purposes. There aren't too many people these days who are running around with a press card in their hatbands, snapping photos for hours on end. You don't NEED a 3-cell graflex. Or a 3-cell Heiland, for that matter.
That being said, here's some advice you won't hear from anyone else on here: just for kicks, I built a Darth Vader lightsaber out of a 3-cell Heiland tube. It came out pretty well. Heilands are cheaper, easier to come by, and easier to work with. Besides - Luke was a fag. You don't want a Graflex.
I have a pretty good collection of photo stuff and, even though I can sympathize with your desire to make a prop-replica lightsaber, I'm not going to help anyone ruin these flash tubes.
You're just going to have to suck it up, bring the village donkey to a pawn shop, and pay the asking prices on ebay.

I dunno, Kafziel, somehow a 2-cell on a 4x5 just doesn't look or feel right. They might *work*, but they just don't have the gravitas of a 3-cell. Now, on a smaller format camera they might look better.

Also, a 3-cell moves the reflector up away from the lens by another couple of inches for better lighting of the subject and less chance of red-eye on color shots.

I'm inclined to agree with you on the 3-cell issue. Size DOES matter. But to do this cheaply, this guy basically has two choices - find a different brand (one that wasn't used in ********) or stick with the brand and get a different size. Anyone with the means to collect Graflex equipment in Croatia should be no stranger to paying top dollar. (Which is how you can be sure he's just a kid looking to make a lightsaber.)

Yeah and it also edits out the words 'phore sayle', if you know what I'm saying!:0

As to the expense of a 3-cell; I worked around that by getting one of the *aluminum* flash handles for a relatively decent price ($35).

Chrome? This former Noo Yawkuh says: fuhgeddabouddit! (At least until the You-Know-Who fans die off. Of course, by then, all the good handles will have been turned into junk -er "sayburz".)
