I have the standard Vulcanoid grey case for my 4x5, and it has a covered compartment on the left side of where the camera body sits. Does anyone know exactly what this compartment is for? I found a Weson light meter in mine.

There were two sizes of these cases made, a Compact case and your larger Handicase, which has that compartment. According to the sticker which came with my case, that compartment was intended for an extra lens on lensboard.

Well that certainly now makes sense. Now all I need is an extra lens! I will say that the Handicase is quite handy, but heavy. Then again, it is large format photography.

the best cure for thinking your Handicase is heavy is to buy an 8x10 Deardorf, three lenses, 5 holders and a tripod. 6 months after using that. you'll think loading 4x5 holders is "minature camera' stuff and you'll smile when yo don't have to go back to car for the third time.

Of course youll be so broke you can't afford to take your Graphic anywhere.....

Yeah, at least I can carry the Handicase in one hand and the tripod in the other. One trip to the car for me!!
