Well,

Just recently aquired a Graphex shutter with a Graflex optar 6.5" f/4.5 lens in it, my question concerns the solinoid that is attached to the shutter release trigger, what was this solinoid used for and where can I find more information about it?

Still learning, but having a ball wasting expensive film!

The solenoid is for flash synchronization. With a flash gun with a trip button, and the proper cord to connect between the flash gun and the solenoid, the solenoid is adjusted to trip the shutter 15 to 20 ms after the flash bulb is ignited so that the shutter opens at the peak brightness of the flashbulb. Get lots more info by clicking on "search" on this site and typing in "solenoid" in the search box. Fred.

The Solenoid was part of the electronic release system used by Graflex on the Graphic cameras. When actuated, it would trip a [pre-cocked] shutter. A button on the battery case was used.

For more info, note we have an excellent SEARCH function on this Helpboard.

Dave,
To help future researches lurking through our archives, can you add part of the subject into the subject heading? "A solenoid question" is much more illuminating.
