hello

Do you use a loupe (or other visual aide) to examine the ground-glass image when preparing the image capture? which one is preferred?

thank you

Dean Taylor

by the way--in case you missed it--here is a fine YT video on Ansel Adams:

Yes. A 4x to 6x magnification is preferred. More than that is hard to use.

Inexpensive photo magnifiers work wonders. If one spend lots of money on a high powered magnifier, then one can see the Fresnel lines real well but not much else.

For years I used an inexpensive Canon-branded 8x magnifier, the kind with transparent sides below the lens to admit light onto the subject, and this was entirely satisfactory, although awkward to hold and position as its shape is rather squat and I don't have especially long fingers (I use the folding hood on my Century). Then I plunked for a Toyo 3.8x loupe (from B&H Photo, no longer made AFAIK), which is much easier to use as it is barrel-shaped and longer, and also has a neck strap.
