The GG on my Crown is very dim, almost unusable in less than bright sunlight. Has anyone tried optical-grade acrylic or lexan for a replacement. I imagine you could use 900 or 1200 grit paper to frost it.

The tried and true solution to brighten your ground glass image is to remove the ground glass and ektalite field screen according to the instructions on manual page 9 (pdf page 11) then follow B 1 on page 10.

I use Dawn dish soap. Rub with your finger tips only. When washing the ektalite field screen rub the ribbed side with the ribs only, not across them.
A mild photoflow rinse can be used for the final rinse and stand on edge and allow to air dry. Towel drying with a lint free towel works also.
Handle the ground glass and ektalite field screen by the edges only from the wash onward. _________________ The best camera ever made is the one that YOU enjoy using and produces the image quality that satifies YOU. |

Thanks for your replies. I've only tried cleaning the outside. I guess I'll take it apart & clean everything. |
