I am in need of a viewfinder mask for my 4 x 5 Speed that has a 135 mm lens. I am using 120 roll film in a Calumet roll holder that yields a 6 x 7 format. The only information that I have found indicates that a #10 mask would be close, but not exact. Does anyone know what mask would be correct, and where I might get one? Lacking that I will try to make one if I knew the dimensions of the mask opening for my situation, format size and lens, or how to calculate the opening size. As a last resort can anyone tell me the dimensions of a #10 mask? Thanks for any help.
Joe

If you had used the forum's search function, you would have found this: http://www.graflex.org/speed-graphic/viewfinder-masks.html

Oops! My bad, it doesn't give anything for 2 1/4 x 2 3/4. Sorry.

Dan

I don't believe there were any masks specifically made for the "perfect" [6x7] format.

From the 1968 guide book for Pacemakers :

2 1/4 x 2 3/4 picture size

#4 70 - 84
#3 86 - 90
#2 92 - 101
#9 103 - 125
#10 127 - 138
#11 140 - 162
#8 164 - 191
#7 192 - 227
#6 229 - 267
#5 268 - 305

BTW I think there is a mistake on the second table of the page suggested by Dan : same focal lengths are repeated twice for different masks within the same pic size.

I appreciate the replies. Looks like I won't find the perfect mask, so can anyone furnish the interior dimensions of a #10 mask? Maybe I can use the dimensions to make a homemade insert until I find a #10 mask.

Those mask sizes for 6x7 are just approximate. No new masks were made AFAIK. Here's the original list, using those same numbers:

Double-checked size of my #10 with data provided in this post and I confirm my measurement. My #4 is 17.75 x 23.25 compared to 18 x 24 in the post. Seems the machine was a bit rough…

Rough? Hey, good enough for Graflex. You shouldn't expect these suckers to be THAT accurate. These were action machines!

Ditto. In my experience with the Century in 6x7, the #2 mask (correct for the 101 lens) gives a *very* approximate view, not to be relied on by any means if accuracy is sought.

Well this should make initial poster jjsmith comfortable about using a 6x9 mask when using a 6x7 rollholder.
